Private 257 Ernest Quevatre

November 29, 2019

One of the first men to be drafted into the RGLI, he left Guernsey on 1st June 1917 onboard the SS Lydia and remained with the regiment throughout all it's active service. On Sunday 14th April 1918, in a railway cutting on the Hazebrouck-Bailleul line their commanding officer, Colonel de Havilland, ordered the roll to be called. Private Quevatre was one of only fifty-five men left to answer the call.

This Saturday 30th November his grand daughter, Mrs Susan Hunt, proudly wearing Ernest's medals, will unveil the extended memorial during the Town Church service, representing all the families of the RGLI.
